They also deliver timely analysis of breaking news with their E-mail Alert service and offer Database services consisting of their proprietary fundamental trade and supply/demand data.

Purpose of the Data Manager:

Their data service provides comprehensive data sets in an easy to use format. They gather data from multiple sources such as government websites and company financial reports. They combine these with their own forecasts to create a service that provides a valuable complement to their research publications.

As such they are seeking a Data Manager, to join their global research team and lead their Data team in London. You will have responsibility for overseeing the entire data service, prioritising workflows and ensuring each file is updated regularly and made available on their Web Portal for the customers to access. They regularly add new data sets and so you will also help to plan and manage the expansion of the service.

On top of ensuring they make accurate and timely data available, you will sometimes be required to act as a point of contact for client enquiries, by e-mail and through our website. The data service is the cornerstone of their research and requires an exceptional level of accuracy and attention to detail.

As an internal data champion, you will act as a link between the Web Development and Research departments to drive improvements and ensure the product is fit for purpose. A large part of the data is presently managed in Excel, but they also work in SQL and Python, so a strong technical understanding of those is critical.

Responsibilities of the Data Manager:

  • Day-to-day management and oversight of the Data team
  • Maintaining data sets including ensuring the latest information is added in a timely fashion
  • Researching and gathering information from various sources to maintain and expand data coverage
  • Liaising with Analysts who are responsible for updating or checking specific data sets
  • Error checking, including solving complex problems originating from vast amounts of data from multiple sources
  • Working with clients to help them understand data or resolve problems when required
  • Ensuring the Data team are fully utilised and supporting the research team in the most effective way possible
  • Searching for ways to streamline our existing processes and approach to data

Requirements of the Data Manager:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of and experience in SQL, Python and ETL
  • Attention to detail is a prerequisite for this role
  • Excellent Excel and computer skills
  • Successful track record in prioritising workflows within a team
  • Either prior experience as a people manager or a background in mentoring/coaching team members
  • Comfortable handling large amounts of data
  • A drive to take ownership and responsibility
  • The ability to meet deadlines and work effectively with others, including colleagues in different time zones
  • Customer focus with good communication skills
  • Professional experience in the energy sector would be advantageous, but is not a pre-requisite
